Turkey funds $800m agricultural project in Sudan
Sudan’s Minister of Agriculture and Sennar State Governor, Azhari Khalafallah said the Turkish government will fund an $800 million development project in partnership with Sudan in the Duba region.
“The 35-year contract was signed by the Council of Ministers and the National Council,” the official said in remarks reported by Sudanese media.
The Minister stressed that the development project will focus on agricultural production, livestock and gardening, emphasizing that the area was chosen because of soil fertility and water availability as well as its proximity to markets.
The Sudanese minister said that the integrated development project includes education, health, electricity, and roads.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Sudan last December accompanied by 200 Turkish businessmen. The two countries signed 21 cooperation agreements during the visit.
