Nigeria Elections 2019: Presidential Electioneering Kicks Off

The stage is set for Nigerian political parties to officially begin campaigns for the country’s 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

As earlier slated by Nigeria’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election campaigns for Presidential and National Assembly will commence on Sunday, November 18, 2018.

“This is in line with the Timetable and Schedule of Activities issued by the Commission and in accordance with Section 99(1) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) which provides that ‘the period of campaigning in public by every political party shall commence 90 days before polling day and end 24 hours prior to that day.

“Political Parties are expected to conduct their activities in an organised and peaceful manner, devoid of rancour, hate and/or inflammatory speeches,” the commission had said

The statement also said that campaigns for governorship candidates and State Houses of Assembly will commence 1st December 2018.

Nigeria’s 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on the 16th of February while that of the Governorship and State Assembly/Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council will hold on Saturday, 2nd March 2019.
