Nigerian Frequent Flyers to have Multiple Standard Passports – NIS

Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Muhammad Babandede, has said that the service is considering the issuance of multiple standard passports to high net-worth Nigerians who are frequent flyers.

While speaking at an event held at its Ikoyi office, the NIS boss said that businesspeople and frequent travellers have complained to the service about the long stay of passports at consulate offices and high commissions for travel visa related cases.

Babandede explained that with the issuance of multiple standard international passports, such travellers would eliminate the challenges of possessing a single passport.

He however noted that hopeful holders of the multiple passports would be subjected to rigorous security scrutiny before issuance.

Also, he lamented the non-collection of already issued passports currently at the service’s passports offices nationwide as were over 70,000, attributing the figure to fraudulent declaration of lost passports by some Nigerians, either to escape justice or illogical excuses.
