CAF Awards African Player of the Year to Sadio Mane
Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the African Player of the Year Award for 2019 to Sadio Mane of Senegal.
The Liverpool forward beat Egyptian football star Mohammed Salah who won the 2017 and 2018 award.
During the 2019 season, Mane scored 26 goals in all competitions and went ahead to win the Premier League Golden Boot award with 22 goals.
In an announcement by CAF on Tuesday in Hurghada, Egypt, Salah came second and congratulated his fellow Red for winning the top spot and posted a photo of Mane when he received the award on his Instagram account, commenting “Congratulations, my brother.”
Also, Riyad Mahrez, received CAF’s Goal of the Year for his extraordinary score against Nigeria in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and came third for African Player of the Year,.
CAF also named Youcef Beilali of Algeria the Best Interclub Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria the Best Women’s Player of the Year, and Ashraf Hakimi of Morocco the Best Youth Player of the Year.
Algeria received the Men’s Team of the Year award, with Cameroon winning the Women’s Team of the Year title.
Amongst coaches that were recognised, are Djamel Belmadi of Algeria – named the Best Men’s African Coach of the Year and Diseree Ellis of South Africa – receiving the award for Best Women’s African Coach of the Year.
The President of Congo’s TP Mazembe club Moise Katumbi was named the Best African club president of the Year while the Egyptian Football Association was named Federation of the Year.
