Taxi Live Africa, a new startup, has been launched in South Africa and is the first e-hailing service to recognise drivers as potential shareholders.

Taxi Live Africa is offering 40% of their profit share to their drivers

Launching on the 24th of July 2020, Taxi Live Africa is a disruptor to South Africa’s current e-hailing industry. The boundary-pushing startup is the country’s only e-hailing service provider which recognizes drivers as potential shareholders. Taxi Live Africa, unlike other competitors, gives their drivers 40% of their income share.

Luvuyo Ntshayi, founder of Taxi Live Africa explains why the startup has created the opportunity for drivers to become shareholders.

“We believe in socialism and creating real entrepreneurs in our society,” he said.

Currently, other competitor e-hailing services do not offer drivers the opportunity to become shareholders in the business. Since their launch, Taxi Live Africa claims that they “have been very busy with the registration of new drivers signing up with Taxi Live Africa.”

In addition to giving its drivers this incentive and promoting entrepreneurship, Taxi Live Africa has announced that it offers its drivers a better commission rate. According to the startup, drivers can pay just 15% fee per ride, helping them to earn more for their services compared to other platforms.

As a South African startup, it has gained support form from local drivers, attracting other aspiring drivers to join Taxi Live.

Taxi Live Africa App

According to the startup, Taxi Live Africa will offer users more affordable prices per kilometer.

Taxi Live Africa is currently available in Durban and Johannesburg using a digital platform via an app to provide passengers with the e-hailing service. The startup plans to extend its services to other major South African cities.

The app offers resources such as a ‘wallet’ that can be funded by either drivers or passengers, meaning consumers can prepare for their trips using Taxi Live Africa.

The Taxi Live app offers all drivers and passengers 24/7 access to support.
