Maria Olateju Phillips Appointed Chairman of Lasaco Assurance Plc

Lasaco Assurance Plc has announced the appointment of Dr Maria Olateju Philips as its new Chairman of the board of directors. This is according to a statement that was seen on the Nigerian Stock Exchange website earlier today.

The statement noted that Maria Olateju Philips’ appointment was confirmed during Lasaco Assurance’s board of directors’ meeting which held on the 5th of October, 2020. Prior to joining Lasaco’s board, she was a member of the board of Keystone Bank Limited and also serves as the 1st Vice President of Eko Foundation.

“We wish to inform our esteemed Shareholders and the General Public that at Lasaco’s Board of Directors’ meeting held on Wednesday 7th October 2020, the Board approved the appointment of Dr. (Mrs.) Maria Olateju Phillips as the new Chairman,” part of the statement by Lasaco Assurance Plc said.

Note that Dr Philips’ appointment follows the unexpected resignation of the company’s former Chairman, Mrs Aserinola Disu. Just last week, the company had informed its stakeholders about Mrs Disu’s resignation which took effect on the 8th of September this year.

Following Disu’s resignation, Dr Maria Olateju Philips and Prince Jamiu Adio Saka were both appointed to the company’s board of directors as Non-Executive Directors.

Dr Maria Olateju Phillips is a UK-trained Chartered Accountant. Asides her stint with Keystone Bank, she also served as a former Director of the Lagos State Lottery Board and a Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations also in Lagos State. She also previously served as the Managing Director of Alma Beach Estate Ltd, Maridot Ventures Ltd, and the Divisional Commercial Manager for UAC Nigeria Plc’s property company.
