Rahul De Has Been Appointed CEO of MTN Liberia Lancaster Cell

Johannesburg-based MTN Group Ltd announced earlier this week that it has appointed Rahul De as its new Chief Executive Officer for MTN Liberia Lancaster Cell. His appointment will take effect on November 1st, 2020.

A press statement seen by Business Elites Africa noted that Rahul De would be replacing MTN Liberia’s former CEO, Uche Ofodile, who left the company in July to take up a new appointment as CEO of MTN Benin.

The statement quoted MTN Group CEO and President, Ralph Muputa, to have congratulated Rahul De whilst expressing confidence in his ability to facilitate MTN Group’s overall business objectives. He said:

“I would like to congratulate Rahul on his appointment. Rahul is a seasoned leader renowned for driving innovative digital and FinTech advancement in our business and in the telecommunications industry.”

Even MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Ferdi Moolman, was quoted to have thanked Rahul De “for his unwavering dedication and commitment to ensuring that MTN Nigeria remains the market leader in our industry; and congratulate him on his new role. I know that he will continue to shine bright as he moves on from our immediate Y’ello family.”

It should be noted that Rahul De joined MTN Group in 2011 as the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Ghana. He held that position until 2015 when he moved to MTN Nigeria as the Chief Marketing Officer. He is said to have been instrumental in driving digital transformation in Nigeria by positioning MTN’s leadership role in the fintech space.

Overall, Rahul De has over 23 years’ worth of experience in the telecommunications industry. He has a Masters’ in Business Administration (MBA) in International Business and a bachelor’s degree in Science.
