Fidelity Bank Appoints 3 new Non-Executive Directors into its Board of Directors

On Monday December 28, 2020, tier-2 Nigerian bank, Fidelity Bank Plc, issued a corporate disclosure announcing some major changes to its Board of Directors. Among these changes is the appointment of three Non-Executive Directors into the company’s Board: Mrs Amaka Theodora Onwughalu, Mr Nelson Chidozie Nweke, and Mr Chinedu Eric Okeke.

According to the statement which was seen by Business Elites Africa, Mrs Onwughalu’s appointment was approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria on December 15th, 2020. On the other hand, the appointments of Mr Nweke and Mr Okeke are still awaiting the apex bank’s approval.

What you Should Know about the new Non-Executive Directors

Mrs Amaka Theodora Onwughalu is said to have accumulated more than three decades-long cognate experience in the banking sector. Her expertise cuts across corporate banking, retail banking, treasury management, banking operations, and commercial banking. In the course of her career, Mrs Onwughalu has also has garnered executive management experience, having served as an executive manager in various companies, including a previous stint as the Group Managing Director of Legacy Mainstreet Bank Ltd, as well as her current position as the CEO of Blueshield Financial Services Limited.

Mrs Onwughalu is a graduate of the University of Buckingham where she graduated with a degree in Economics. She also obtained a degree in Corporate Governance from Leeds Metropolitan University also in the United Kingdom, and then an MBA from the University of Port Harcourt here in Nigeria. She also acquired a number of professional certifications by undergoing training at INSEAD, IMD Business School, etc.

Nelson Chidozie Nweke: He is a graduate of the University of Ibadan where he obtained a B.Sc in Political Science and an M.Sc. in Industrial and Labour Relations. He also obtained executive management certifications from some of the world’s most prestigious schools such as Harvard Business School, IMD, Lausanne, and INSEAD.

Mr Nweke is the Managing Director of Neilville Nigeria Limited. Prior to this current position, he worked in a number of other financial services firms and even served as an Executive Director at Legacy Intercontinental Bank Plc.

Chinedu Eric Okeke: He is currently the Managing Director of Azura Power West Africa Limited. Prior to this time, he held top management positions in a number of blue chip Nigerian companies such as Lafarge Africa Plc, General Electric, Guinness Nigeria Plc, and Schlumberger Oilfield Services. In total, his professional experience has spanned over two decades.

Mr Okeke is a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained a degree in Electronic Engineering. He also obtained an MBA from UK-based Imperial College. He also underwent studies at Gordon Institute of Business Science in South Africa, INSEAD, Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, etc.


NOTE: Fidelity Bank Plc also announced the retirement of one Executive Director (Mrs. Aku Odinkemelu) as well as the retirement of three Non-Executive Directors namely- Chief Charles Umolu, Mr Michael Okeke, and Mr Alex Ojukwu.
