2 Kenyan Startups Receive Funding from Global VC Firm, Antler
Global early-stage venture capital firm, Antler, has given pre-seed funding to two Kenyan startups named Cooked and Uncover. The startups were selected after participating in Antler’s second, six-months-long accelerator programme which took place in Nairobi last year.
Business Elites Africa understands that a total of 30 individuals were initially selected from a pool of 1,800 applications to participate in the accelerator programme which started in March and lasted through September.
In the course of the programme, the thirty individuals formed twelve teams. Eventually, only Cooked and Uncover were able to transform into fully-fledged startups. Antler has now named them as the winners and given them $100, 000 pre-seed funding.
Do note that Antler had previously invested in four Kenya startups who participated in its first accelerator programme in February last year. The Kenya-based VC firm came into operation in May 2019 and specialises in scouting for entrepreneurial individuals from anywhere in the world and connecting them with opportunities such as top-tier network of advisors who can mentor them into launching innovative startups.
About Cooked and Uncover
According to information gleaned from its website, Cooked is a meal kit provider. The startup makes use of technology to make it easier for grocery shoppers to find, buy, and take delivery of their food items. In nutshell, “cooked delivers fresh ingredients with easy to follow recipes, straight to your door, making it simple to cook a healthy, tasty meal at home.”
Uncover, on the other hand, is a wellness startup which provides skincare, massage, and other related services. The company’s Co-founder, Catherine Lee, said she has always been fascinated with skincare even when she was working in banking. Now, she is finally glad to launch Uncover and care for her fellow women.
“I bring you Uncover with deep passion and commitment to the self-care of my fellow womankind, who desire and deserve better choices and better information when it comes to caring for what we put forward the most, our faces,” she said.
