Unilever Nigeria Appoints Former MTN Nigeria CEO as Independent Non-Executive Director

Unilever Nigeria Plc has informed the Nigerian Stock Exchange and other stakeholders about the appointment of Mr Michael Ikpoki as a new Independent Non-Executive Director of the company.

A corporate action that was signed by the Company Secretary, Mrs Abidemi Ademola, said Mr Ikpoti’s appointment took effect today, February 1st, 2021.

Mr Michael Ikpoki is a multinational business enterprise leader with over twenty 24 cognate professional experience cutting across both public and private service. He had previously worked with Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) as a Regulatory Advisor between 1995 and 2001. From there, he moved to MTN Nigeria where he first started off as a Regulatory Advisor from 2001 to 2004.

He later became General Manager in charge of Regulatory Affairs, General Manager in charge of Sales Operation, Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana and later Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria between 2013 and 2015. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Africa Context Advisory Partners, a privately-held firm that was established in 2015.

“Mr Ikpoki has demonstrated proven capability in successfully managing and growing telecommunications operations in some of the largest economies in Africa during his tenures as CEO of MTN Ghana and CEO of MTN Nigeria respectively between 2011 and 2015. In his Operational Senior leadership and CEO roles, he successfully deployed effective leadership to deliver concrete results. Mr Ikpoki now independently consults and serves as a resource person on Telco/ICT projects within Africa while adapting his experience to other related areas namely market entry advisory and leadership development,” part of the statement by Unilever Nigeria said.

Do note that Michael Ikpoti is a trained lawyer, having graduated from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology in 1990 with an LLB. In 2006, he attended courses at the Lagos Business School on how to manage operations. He also studied at the London Business School, INSEAD, and the prestigious Harvard Business School.
