Africa’s Firebrand Entrepreneur, Vusi Thembekwayo, Appointed as Co-Chair of Silicon Cape
Firebrand African entrepreneur and venture capitalist, Vusi Thembekwayo, has been appointed as the Co-Chairperson of Silicon Cape, a community of tech entrepreneurs and developers in South Africa that helps start-ups raise funds and thrive.
Vusi will work alongside Sumarie Roodt, who also a Co-Chairperson on the board.
Roodt described Vusi’s appointment to the board as a “massive achievement and milestone for the organization and the ecosystem, but it also means that we are determined to tackle the systemic challenges that exist in our ecosystems such as the structural inequalities and the relative lack of diversity”.
In his reaction to the development, Vusi expressed readiness to take on the responsibility which he described as an opportunity to serve the business community in Africa.
“Silicon Cape has been leading the work of developing an ecosystem of funders, founders, accelerators & researchers that help scale start-ups scale their business for maximum impact. We have a lot ahead of us. I am humbled at the opportunity to serve the start-up community of Africa”, Vusi wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday, March 3.
Vusi is a serial entrepreneur and the founding CEO of MyGrowthFund Venture Partners. He is also a consummate business speaker whose speaking gigs transcend African cities and includes New York, London, Paris, New Jersey, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Colombo, and San Francisco.
He was just 25 years when he ran a R400 million division in a billion-dollar multi-national company, and over the years, he has proven that the feat wasn’t a flash in the pan.
