Boity Thulo: A Thriving Serial Entrepreneur Against All Odds

Breaking the glass ceiling, Boity Thulo turned a lack of funds into a thriving entrepreneurial career.

Before the fame and the glamour, Boity Thulo had to work her way up from a humble beginning. Raised by her maternal grandmother, she grew up in Potchefstroom, around the North West provinces of South Africa. Thulo was studying psychology and criminology at Monash University but had to drop out because there were no funds to pay her tuition. She subsequently signed up with a casting agency, and in 2010 appeared in a Wimpy advertisement that would set the course of a successful career.

“Most of us come from families where our great grandparents could not leave anything behind for us, but now is the time for this generation to start thinking of creating sustainable wealth that will benefit the future generation”, said Thulo.

Her TV & Movie Career

In 2011, Thulo hosted the YOTV educational show Crib Notes. She later became a co-host of SABC1’s The Media Career Guide Show, with Thomani Mahlaba. Among the television shows she’s hosted are SkyRoom Live, Ridiculousness Africa, Club 808, Zoned, Change Down, and Big Brother Africa.

“Since I was about 5 years of age I would daydream about being on TV. I am so blessed that I have been able to hold on to this dream for this long and have it happen faster than my wildest imagination”, she said in a session with Youth Village.
