Flutterwave Partners AfroSport to Air AFCON 2021 for Free

The collaboration between Flutterwave and Afrosport will ensure that AFCON 2021 is accessible to Africans for free. 

Africa’s premier payment technology company, Flutterwave, partnered with Africa’s first continental free-to-air sports channel, AfroSport Network, to broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations – AFCON 2021 matches free-to-air (FTA).

Flutterwave’s CEO, Mr Olugbenga Agboola, announced this through a blog post titled “It’s time to cheer for Africa”.

He says the sponsorship will assist the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB) provide a world-class broadcast of the game on free-to-air television in Nigeria and Africa.

According to him, the collaboration between Flutterwave and Afrosport is to ensure that quality sports content is made available and accessible to everyone during the AFCON 2021 for free. He said this resonates with the company’s tenet to make life easier. He reassured football stakeholders that Flutterwave would continue to find meaningful channels to connect and provide value for their customers.

He said, “What we are all about at Flutterwave is making life easy, and that is why we have provided the easiest and most reliable payments solutions for businesses anywhere in the world. If getting free access to sports, which represents our passion as Africans and fosters our unity, is what makes life easy, we will surely be standing tall”.

Also, in a statement by Flutterwave, “Uniting Africa through sports is just as important as the work we do in uniting Africa through payments and commerce. Today, We have partnered with AfroSport Network, Africa’s first Free To Air (FTA) sports channel, to broadcast the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 on free-to-air networks across Africa to grow our unity as a continent.”

Mr Andy Howes, the co-founder of Afrosport TV, said, “Flutterwave is seeking to be an enabler at the heart of African commerce and community life, and their support as a broadcast sponsor is further evidence of the genuineness of their commitment.

Sponsorship is the life-blood of FTA TV, and it is only by the support of companies such as Flutterwave that millions of fans can participate in the enjoyment of an event like the African Nations Cup through their TV sets”, he said.

AFCON 2021, the biggest continental football spectacle in Nigeria, will air to a global audience from the 9th of January to the 6th of February 2022. The 52 matches will be broadcast on three free-to-air TV networks: NTA Network Service, selected Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) TV Stations and Afrosport TV Channel 730 on National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) digital platform – Free TV.
