Setting attainable objectives is the first step toward making a huge change in your life. This entails knowing the unhealthy habits you need to quit and adopting healthy ones.

Bad habits can easily ruin our businesses, health, finances, relationships, and happiness. One bad habit can be the sour apple that ruins a dozen good habits.

However, not all bad habits are intrinsically bad. Some are quite beneficial, such as laying out your work clothes the night before or turning out the lights when you leave a room.

Some behaviours, such as biting your nails, drinking caffeine late in the day, or hitting the snooze button too often, may not be so healthy.

It can be challenging to break bad habits, especially if you’ve been doing them for an extended period. 

Understanding how habits arise in the first place can make the process of quitting these habits go more smoothly.

1. Stop putting off achieving your goals

Some individuals fantasise about success, while others get up every day and work hard to get it. 

When action and change are most required, they are frequently opposed. Get a grip on yourself and practice self-discipline. 

Putting anything off makes it more difficult and frightening. You won’t be able to finish what you don’t start today by tomorrow. And nothing is more stressful than an unfinished task that never seems to go away.

Simply getting started is the key to going ahead. So, forget about the finish line and focus just on the first step of starting.

2. Setting lofty ambitions that are difficult to achieve

Instead of setting lofty goals, it is advisable to take tiny steps and gradually introduce change to form the neural pathways necessary for habit formation. 

Once you’ve mastered those, you can go on to bigger challenges. If you’re making a habit change, make it a realistic one so you’ll be more likely to stick to the adjustments that will bring you there.

3. Stop blaming others and creating excuses for yourself

Stop blaming others for your possessions or lack thereof or your feelings. 

You avoid responsibility and perpetuate the situation when you blame others for what you’re going through. 

Stop handing over your authority and start taking charge of your life. Making excuses is the first step toward failure; you and only you are responsible for your life choices and decisions.

4. Using electronic devices before going to bed

You already know that you should get seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Maybe, putting a stop to your before-bed Instagram perusing will help you get to sleep faster. 

However, reducing your exposure to sleep-disturbing light, which can upset your circadian cycle, can also help you achieve better quality sleep. 

Most sleep specialists advise that you finish any screen use at least 20 minutes before bedtime. 

5. Drinking your way into a hangover regularly

Drinking excessively is a straightforward method to jeopardise your health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, moderate drinking is one drink per day for women, while severe drinking is eight or more drinks per week. 

Blowing past these limits regularly can result in weight gain, unintended injuries such as falls, and chronic diseases such as liver cirrhosis, pancreatitis, and cancer.

6. Quit comparing yourself to others on social media

It’s not about purging your phone of all social media but rather browsing with intention. 

Remember that no one’s life is exactly as it appears on social media, and keep that in mind whenever you’re feeling bad. 

Also, go and do something that will help you remember all of the awesome aspects of your own life. Also, unfollow those accounts that leave you feeling anxious every time.

7. Don’t be so ungrateful

At first, not all of life’s puzzle pieces will appear to fit together exactly, but you’ll notice that they do with time. 

So thank the things that didn’t work out for making a place for the things that did. 

And praise those who have walked away from you because they have made room for those who will not.

Wake up each day grateful for your life, no matter how good or awful things are in your life. 

Someone else is fighting tooth and nail for theirs. Instead of focusing on what you don’t have, consider what you do have that others don’t.
