5 Mindblowing Technology Breakthroughs We’ve Seen So Far in 2022

With the dynamic nature of the technology world, ground-shaking breakthroughs and discoveries are made daily. This has, in turn, changed the way we relate to everything around us. These discoveries made life easier and more comfortable.

Though some of these technologies are still in their initial stages, they are already impacting how we live our lives. Here are some mind-blowing technology breakthroughs in 2022 you need to know.

No password

As a means of protecting private pieces of information online, M.I.T. Professor Fernando Corbalo invented the password. Up till now, it is the means of online authentication and verification. Despite its efficiency, it failed. Hackers easily access personal information or access hidden passwords.

Due to this flaw, tech companies are devising means to eradicate passwords and proffer a better way of securing personal data. This has seen the advent of face recognition devices, six-digit codes, and phone email confirmation.

Some companies pioneering other security alternatives already are Okta, Duo, Google, Apple and Microsoft. Apple integrated a biometric login system (face recognition). Last year March, Microsoft scraped and asked users to go passwordless.

This, in turn, reduces the need to store or always remember passwords.

Battery Energy Storage System

With the constant need for energy, there is a need for a storage device. This is further compounded by the surge of renewable energy that needs to be stored for later use. This has seen the creation of batteries that store energies.

In 2021, Oregon-based energy storage system ESS launched its first battery grid. It can store energy for about four to twelve hours. Also, Massachusetts-based Form Energy batteries hold power for up to 100 hours. By 2023, the company will install a one-megawatt pilot plant in Minnesota.

Protein folding Artificial Intelligence (A.I.)

The body system functions based on proteins, and every function is determined by how a protein folds. Unfolding this knowledge is, however, time-consuming.

While this is tasking for humans, it was made possible by an A.I. called AlphaFold2. It was created by DeepMind, a UK-based artificial intelligence lab. With this, protein folds are being restructured to produce drugs and cure some incurable diseases. The lab will partner with existing biotech and pharma companies to promote health.

Proof of stake

Cryptocurrency is a trend that is here to stay. With its increasing usage globally, its electricity usage has increased. This is because transaction verification requires substantial power. In 2021, Bitcoin used about 100 terawatt-hours. This cryptocurrency hiccup is being resolved by proof of stake. This reduces energy usage on the platforms.

This has seen platforms such as Ethereum plan to transfer their activities to the platform. This will reduce energy consumption to 99.95%. Ethereum will be fully onboard proof of stake by the third or fourth quarter (Q3/Q4) of 2022.

Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) data

Data is needed for the different ongoing projects in the A.I. sector. Some of the available data are either not organised or have privacy issues. To this effect, data companies for A.I. are springing up.

For instance, Datagen and Synthesis A.I. provide digital human faces on demand. The Synthetic Data Vault offers an open-source tool. This can be used to create a wide range of data types.
