Successful people didn’t achieve greatness in a day. They toiled, and as the years went by, they only became hungrier for success. The legendary Steve Jobs said, “My hunger has destroyed my fear of failure being hungry is the key element of my success. I am not satisfied with what I achieved yesterday. I want to make progress, innovate, grow, and revolutionise the world.”
Since this is based on the individual, there is a tendency for the yearning for success to dwindle. When such happens, you need to revive your initial drive as it is the only way for you to achieve extraordinary things. This drive has seen entrepreneurs attain unprecedented success unreplicated by others.
The second wealthiest man in Nigeria, Abdul Samad Rabiu’s hunger for success saw him reclaim his family wealth despite the altercation between his father and the Nigerian government and the devaluation of the Naira.
Reclaiming this status, he said, “It is a good feeling to be on the rich list. The most important thing is not about how much money you make but your impact.” His yearning for success helped him stay motivated and attain his current status.
The choice was entirely his to make. This also applies to you. To be hungrier for success depends entirely on how far you are willing to go.
Ambition is a stimulant for success. No wonder the wealthiest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, said, “If you don’t have ambition, you shouldn’t be alive.” This is because ambition helps you attain some things in life. The lack of such emotion means you do not yearn to be successful.
To develop such a feeling, you need to set goals you want to achieve. This is essential as it will help you have a clear vision of where you want to get to within a specific time. Your vision will be the driving force that will ignite your hunger for success insight. Remember that your ambition should be positively oriented.
Try new things
Successful people are driven by the idea of trying and discovering new things and knowledge. The idea of finding new things piques their interest and continues to motivate them to yearn for success. Since they are curious, they become interestingly occupied and don’t get bored.
Manny Stul, CEO of Moose Toys, said, “I find new directions and avenues extremely exciting. It’s innovative and different. I’d be bored if I kept doing the same thing repeatedly.”
To remain committed to success and yearn for more success, try being flexible with your method or strategies for your goal. When stuck with an unproductive process, try a new one.
John D Rockefeller, the Standard Oil Company founder, said, “If you want to succeed, you should strike out on new paths, rather than travel the worn paths of accepted success.”
Consider success as a duty
To crave more success, you need to see it as a necessity, not an obligation. You can easily discard an obligation but cannot do without a necessity. Just as breath is necessary, perceive success as the breath you cannot live without.
This is needed as desiring and wishing only for success will remain just a pipe dream until you make success a duty and the most important one. However, this demand your time and hard work. So, don’t give in, never give up — Be relentless. Be unstoppable. Be so hungry that it keeps you awake.
Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, said, “Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.”
Don’t comfortable with past glory
Never rely on or live in your previous success. Living your life based on past achievements is one of the ways you kill your potential. The more you glory in your past, the more you are unconsciously comfortable with your current disposition. Gradually, your taste for more success decreases.
Instead of being comfortable, always look for ways to make it better. Be innovative. For instance, the decentralised trajectory has seen Mark Zukerberg, the founder of Facebook, look for ways to upgrade the social media platform by integrating the visual world.
Darin @ The Business Warrior’s Dojo said, “Most innovation involves doing the things we do every day a little bit better rather than creating something wholly new and different.“ Hence, don’t stay in the past.
Change your orientation about success
Success means different things to people. Having a nice job, car and house is considered success to some people, while others yearn for more. Your orientation about success will therefore decide your hunger level for success.
So if you want to yearn more for success, expand what it means to you beyond the norm of society. To the wealthiest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, success means being remembered as the greatest industrialist.
