Peter Obi’s Plane Grounded Ahead of Campaign

The plane scheduled for Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi was grounded ahead of his campaign in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

This caused some drama at the Lagos airport on Wednesday as supporters and other party leaders escalated the issue.

The Deputy Director-General and Campaign Manager for Labour Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Oseloka Obaze, was the first to sound the alarm following a notification that the plane had been grounded.

The former Nigerian diplomat took the matter to Twitter to inform people that the Peter Obi’s plane had been grounded for regulatory grounds by the some hidden powers.

When reached, Julius Abure, the party’s national chairman, confirmed the report.

He said, “We have just finished our rally in Ibadan. It is true that the plane meant to convey our NWC and NEC members was grounded by the powers that be. But we were not deterred by the plane that was grounded.

This is what we have been saying about this country. It is not the first time it is happening. They have been using every opportunity to ensure we don’t get to do anything in this country.”

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s response

The head of media, for the Presidential Campaign Organisation, Diran Onifade, also issued a statement to convey the disappointment of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) with the outcome of the event.

In response to the allegations, The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, refuted the accusations and stated that the plane belonged to a scheduled operator.

He said, “The plane that was grounded before their campaign belongs to a scheduled operator i.e. normal commercial flight. The flight crew of the said aircraft returned to the base on their own to check on an issue that developed soon after it took off.

This is the normal and right thing to do. What they did is what we termed safety precautionary flight measures. NCAA was not involved in this decision.”

Moving onward from the drama, Obi has disclosed to Nigerians of his strategy to safeguard the nation and bring its people together. He has pledged that if he is elected in 2023, he would not build on tribalism and religion.
