Giannis Antetokounmpo is a professional basketball player who was born in Athens, Greece to Nigerian parents. He currently plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). At just 28, Antetokounmpo has made the Forbes list of the highest-paid athletes in 2022.
In 2011, Giannis Antetokounmpo began his professional basketball career with the Filathlitikos senior men’s team in the Greek B Basket League. He was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2013 NBA Draft and has become one of the most successful and well-known players in the league.
Antetokounmpo has been named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice and has led the Bucks to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals multiple times. He is one of four Black athletes, including LeBron James and Kevin Durant, who earned a combined $992 million in 2022, to make Forbes’ list of the top 10 highest-paid athletes. This makes him the only player in the top ten who is still in his 20s, while Neymar, the star of Brazilian football, will turn 30 in February.
