Enemies Of Tinubu You Should Know

Bola Tinubu, the flagbearer of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC) has over the years built an empire for himself. And just like the popular saying “the more successful you get, the more enemies you make,” Tinubu’s success in the political world has no doubt earned him some foes.

The APC Presidential Candidate who is well known by different titles: Governor-General of Lagos and Jagaban of Borgo Kingdom has influenced many political actors. This is reflected in their loyalty to him as a Godfather.  The Osun-born politician has the support of governors like Governor Babajide Sanwolu, (Lagos), Governor Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Kano), and Governor Aminu Bello Masari (Katsina).

Despite these, Jagaban has come face to face with other personalities on several allegations about the forgery of his educational certificates and claims that he has turned Lagos into his private company.

Let’s have a look at some of Nigeria’s elites who aren’t on Tinubu’s good side.

Bode George

Bode George, A chieftain of the PDP, has always been an enemy of Tinubu. The media is filled with his harsh comments about Jagaban. His comments include his call for Asiwaju to authenticate claims about his indigeneship of Lagos. It also includes George’s request for anti-graft agencies to question Tinubu over the alleged presence of bullion vans in his Bourdillon residence during the 2019 elections. Other comments are claims that Jagaban uses a consulting firm, Alpha Beta, to siphon Lagos resources and his assertion that Jimi Agbaje was planted in the PDP by Tinubu to work for APC amongst others.

Also, George blames Tinubu for his 30 months of jail term. The PDP Chieftain, who was Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority was charged and sentenced to jail, after he was found guilty on 47 out of the 68 counts, in October 2009. The sentence was handed out by Justice Joseph Olubunmi Oyewole.

Late Gani Fawehinmi

Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi also secured a seat on the list of Tinubu’s enemies.  The human rights lawyer on October 7, 1999, filed an order at the Federal High Court, Lagos. The order compelled security operatives to investigate Tinubu’s education certificates, which he alleged were forged. But the Supreme Court ruled that Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, cannot be prosecuted by the police for alleged certificate forgery.

It also added that the Inspector-General of Police could not be compelled by Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), to investigate Tinubu for alleged certificate forgery. The certificate forgery case which Fawehinmi refused to drop when he was alive, enlisted him as an enemy of Tinubu.

Late Dr Domic Adegbola

Late Adegbola is named an enemy of Tinubu because he attempted to reopen Fawehinmi’s case on claims that Tinubu’s education certificates were forged in 2013. However, the petition was dismissed. Reports say the Late chief sought an order compelling the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate the case. Also, Adegbola on October 24, 2012, petitioned Lagos State Government. The PDP Chieftain requested disclosure of public accounts that pertain to the tax consultancy fee the government monthly remits to Alpha Beta Consulting Ltd. The petition was disregarded by the then-governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, stressing that the Freedom of Information Act had no effect on his administration.

Ali Modu Sheriff

Sheriff, a former governor of Borno State threatened to beat Tinubu up in 2014. The threat happened at an APC National Executive Committee meeting after Tinubu’s reaction to Sheriff’s suggestion. Reports say Sheriff who was the leader of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) had said APC was not yet mature as a party. But Tinubu, who was critical to the development of this party asked Sheriff to leave the party if he wasn’t comfortable. However, Sherif has mended his relationship with Tinubu and endorsed his 2023 presidential candidacy.
