Tinubu and Atiku Fights Over Naira Notes and Fuel Scarcity
Bola Tinubu, The presidential candidate of ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has clashed with Atiku Abubakar, his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart. Their clash bordered on issues from the scarcity of fuel and new Naira notes.
The contention allegedly began when Tinubu accused the Buhari administration of creating fuel scarcity and redesigning the naira to scuttle the 2023 elections. The APC flagbearer made this statement when he stood on a public stage at his presidential rally in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Reacting to the statement, the Atiku/Okowa campaign council noted that Tinubu believes Buhari was using the redesigned naira and current fuel scarcity against him.
Tinubu’s reaction to the Atiku/Okowa campaign council
However, the Director, Media and Publicity at the APC PCC, Bayo Onanuga in a statement, asked Atiku not to get high on its own smoke. Bayo also warned that no political blackmail and attempt to create a conflict between Tinubu and his long-term ally, President Buhari can succeed.
APC PCC also explained that Atiku and his party were labouring to twist statements made by Tinubu on the scarcity of fuel and the newly redesigned Naira notes. The ruling party campaign team further explained that Tinubu was only diverting the government’s attention to the sabotage being carried out by some Fifth Columnists in the system, possibly working in cahoots with the PDP.
Atiku’s counter-reactions to APC PCC
In a recently released statement, the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization counselled Tinubu and the APC PCC against involving them in their problems with President Buhari. The PDP PCC maintained that Tinubu’s statement against the President is “the official position of his confused, disoriented and disorganized Campaign Organization.”
The opposition campaign council also noted that Asiwaju intends to blackmail the President and incite his followers to violence. It also said that Jagaban’s efforts are all targeted at truncating the electoral process, ahead of the 2023 elections.
