Tinubu: I Have No Preferred Candidates for the 10th National Assembly Leadership
President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu says he has no preferred candidates for the leadership of the federal legislature to be inaugurated in June. He made this known at the Old Banquet Hall of the State House while addressing new members-elect to the National Assembly at a meeting organised by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His position on the composition of the leadership of the 10th National Assembly was delivered at the meeting by Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima. This statement comes in reaction to claims that the meeting was convened to discuss matters on the likely distribution of leadership offices in the two chambers of the National Assembly, to avert a repeat of the 2015 scenario in which the party lost control of the affairs within the chambers, despite having the most seats in both houses.
The meeting which was chaired by the party’s chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, had the vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and other national executive members of the ruling party in attendance.
Addressing newsmen after the meeting, one of the elected members of the House of Representatives, Festus Adefiranye of Ileoluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency of Ondo State, confirmed that Tinubu’s speech was read by Shettima.
Tinubu charges Lawmakers to network
Festus revealed that Tinubu urged the lawmakers-elect to collectively network and present a leader that would be favourable to them. He also hinted that Tinubu said whomever they settle for would be presented to the party leadership.
The Lawmaker-elect also added that the duty of the party leadership is to ensure that the appointed person complies with the principle of justice, balance and equity, in line with the zoning arrangement of the party.
Reports say that the message delivered by Shettima, on behalf of the president-elect, was aimed at spurring them to focus on the forth-coming governorship and state legislative elections.
