Tinubu Can Lose His President-Elect Status – Peter Obi
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has expressed confidence in the judiciary to deliver the right judgment with regard to the case before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal. Obi who is challenging the authenticity of Tinubu’s president-elect status expressed said he has no reason to doubt the court.
Speaking during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily this morning, the LP candidate said Nigeria has one of the finest judiciaries in the world.
Why Obi is confident Tinubu will lose his status
Obi said that he is confident because he stayed in court for three years when people said it was impossible to become a governor through the court. He explained that he became the first (to reclaim a stolen mandate). In his word, “Remember I was impeached and again the court brought me back. And I went for interpretation where I said, ‘My tenure is not complete’. People said it was impossible because somebody else had been elected but I changed it.”
He maintained that he does not have a cause to doubt the court because he has gone through several of them. Speaking further Obi noted that the politicians are trying to corrupt the court because of their transactional nature. He wished he could reverse the corrupt trends by winning his case.
The Labour candidate stressed that “Africans are surprised that the giant of Africa can no longer deliver’” a credible election.
Obi, who was dissatisfied with the election results and declaration of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) approached the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to grant it permission to inspect the election materials used by the commission during the 25 February polls, including the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, (BVAS). BVAS was the major technology deployed during the polls to enhance a free and free process.
