Reno Omokri Calls for Peter Obi, Datti Baba-Ahmed Arrest

Reno Omokri, a frontline campaigner for Atiku and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Federal Government to go after Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) if he makes a treasonable statement.

He made the statement while reacting to a warning by Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture that Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, are at risk of being prosecuted for treason over some of their utterances over the February 25 presidential election.

According to the minister of information and culture, he said Obi and his running mate were inciting people to violence over the outcome of the poll

Recall that Datti Baba-Ahmed in an interview with Channels Television said Tinubu failed to fulfill the requirements stipulated in the section of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) for election to the office of the president.

As a result of this interview, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) fined Channels Television N5 million for allegedly violating the NBC code in the programme with Baba-Ahmed.

The information minister who is currently in Washington to engage with international media organizations and think-tanks over the just concluded elections, such as Washington Post, Voice of America, Associated Press and Foreign Policy Magazine, claimed it was wrong for Obi to seek redress in court over the outcome of the polls and at the same time incite people for violence.

“Obi and his Vice, Datti Ahmed cannot be threatening Nigerians that if the President-elect, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is sworn in on May 29, it will be the end of democracy in Nigeria. This is treason. You cannot be inviting insurrection, and this is what they are doing”, he said.

He further said Obi’s statement is that of a desperate person and that he is not a democrat that he claimed to be. He added that a democrat should not believe in democracy only when he wins the election.

Peter Obi refuted the allegations, saying he never discussed or encouraged anyone to undermine the Nigerian state.

Omokri in a tweet reacted to the statement by saying, “The next time either Peter Obi or Datti Baba Ahmed open their mouths to make treasonous comments, the Federal Government should arrest them. Nothing will happen. What happened when FG arrested Nnamdi Kanu? Did heaven fall? Arrest the wimpy simps if they blab anyhow!”

This statement has generated a lot of controversies on social media as several netizens disagreed with him.
