Don’t Compromise Justice – Tinubu Tells Judges
The President-elect, Bola Tinubu has asked judges not to compromise justice in the cause of their duties. He made this statement during the commissioning of the Magistrates’ Court Complex in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
Stressing that the complex was an indication that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike was fighting corruption, Tinubu said, “I take a different angle to what Wike has done here today, he is fighting corruption. If you don’t want your judges to be corrupt, you must pay attention to their welfare. We don’t want our judges to compromise justice, not just the books but do something, and I promise you that we will review all of these in a policy think tank.”
Tinubu’s message to the judges comes a few days ahead of the hearing of the presidential election tribunal. Recall that the election tribunal had earlier fixed the 8th of May, 2023 to hear the petitions of the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar. Both parties are challenging the victory of Tinubu at the 25th of February polls, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Tinubu insist that Nigeria’s unity is non-negotiable
Speaking further, The former Lagos governor hinted that he is working closely with Wike to promote unity. He said, “I promise Nigerians that the unity of this country is not negotiable. That is what Governor Wike and I are promoting jointly. I promise I will be fair to all.”
Tinubu also pledged to fulfil all his campaign promises to residents of Rivers State. He said, “I will fulfil the promise I made to the people of Rivers State and that is what I intend to do in all policy formations coming up.
