Mo Abudu Unveils Latest Venture, Mo Abudu Films

Nigerian media tycoon and philanthropist, Mosunmola Abudu popularly known as Mo Abudu has launched a new venture, Mo Abudu Films. This comes as part of plans to expand her media conglomerate.

The newly launched cinema label, Mo Abudu Films will be used as a platform to share Abudu’s creative aspirations. Its launch is in line with her aim to enrich the landscape of Nigerian cinema through the production of personal and intimate films that amplify the voices and perspectives of underrepresented communities.

Aimed at catering to an extensive and diverse pan-African audience, Mo Abudu’s new venture will make a powerful debut with the release of two short films: “Her Perfect Life” and “Iyawo Mi (My Wife)”. These pioneering titles spotlight mental health issues, a subject yet to receive sufficient attention in Nigeria and across Africa

Mo Abdu Films to pave the way for inclusion and equity

Disclosing the mission statement for the label, Mo Abdu said, “We believe that through our work, we can ignite conversations and spark positive change while paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable world.”

The Nigerian entrepreneur behind EbonyLife Media also hampered her organisation’s objective to promote discourse and encourage constructive change through its projects. Since she established EbonyLife Media, one of Africa’s most successful media ventures, in 2006, Mo has produced compelling movies and entertainment content.

EbonyLife TV which airs across several countries in Africa, the UK, and the Caribbean struck a partnership deal with Netflix in February 2020. The partnership deal saw Netflix acquire several EbonyLife drama series, including Castle & Castle, Fifty, Sons of the Caliphate, On the Real, and The Governor, alongside a reality show, The Dating Game, and a feature film, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel.

Mo’s deal with Netflix opened doors to another deal that will see Mo Abudu and the Netflix team create two original series and several Netflix-branded films.
