Why Hilda Baci Extended Cook-a-thon To 100 Hours

Nigerian chef and entrepreneur, Hilda Baci has hit her cook-a-thon initial 96-hour target. She is now going on to create a record time of 100 hours. 

Hilda made the decision after supporters gathered at the Amore Gardens, Lekki cheered her on to go for the feat. She was initially scheduled to stop at 4 pm Nigerian Time culminating into her former 96-hour target. 

She has continued to receive a wave of support on social media with dignitaries including President Muhammadu Buhari, President-elect, Bola Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, and Senate president hopeful, Godswill Akpabio among those who have thrown their weight behind the Akwa-Ibom-born chef.  

Determined to break her 96-hour record, Hilda cook-a-thon is now scheduled to stop at 8 pm Nigerian time.

Hilda began the ongoing cooking marathon at 4 pm on Thursday at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State. Once her achievement is vetted by the Guinness World Record, Hilda will displace the current holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who set the record of 87 hours and 45 minutes of uninterrupted cooking in 2019.

Since the challenge started, Hilda’s passion has generated a buzz on social media platforms as netizens took turns celebrating her resilience. Following her success at breaking a world cooking record, the Guinness Book of Records in a Twitter post wrote, “We’re aware of this amazing record attempt, we need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record.”

Their tweet comes in reaction to an enquiry made by a Tweep. The Tweep named Alexander wrote, “Why is Guinness World Records not showing or talking about Hilda’s cook-a-thon? Can’t see anything on their pages (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube).”

Before her cook-a-thin, Hilda represented Nigeria against Chef Seyram Leslie Kumordzie of Ghana and emerged winner of the 2021 Jollof Competition.
