5 Places Aliko Dangote Goes to Relax in Lagos
Over the years, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has established a reputation for his entrepreneurial prowess and tireless work ethic. However, even the most successful individuals need moments of respite.
For Dangote who once said, “I enjoy myself a lot but I derive more joy in working. I believe in hard work and one of my business secrets is hard work,” his relaxation spots could be tied closely to his work and business circle.
Let’s look at some locations Dangote visits in Lagos to find solace and rejuvenation amidst his busy schedule.
Mariya Yacht
Dangote loves to relax in his Mariya Yacht with selected friends. Moored in Lagos Lagoon, Dangote’s yacht is nothing but luxury. The yacht features well-furnished bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom with a sauna, etc. He has been sighted relaxing with friends like Femi Otedola of Geregu Power Plc, Segun Awolowo of Nigeria Export Promotion Council, NEPC, Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River state and Former Chairman of the now defunct Skye bank.
Eko Hotel and Suites
Eko Hotel is synonymous with billionaires because it is the most preferred hotel in West Africa and is positioned in the heart of Victoria Island. Dangote has visited this hotel on a number of occasions but one visit that stands out was the wedding of his daughter.
According to reports, Dangote held the last phase of Fatima’s wedding on a Friday night at Eko Hotel and Suites. The wedding was graced by the world’s second richest man, Bill Gates, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, top politicians and other business moguls.
Dangote who is divorced has three lovely daughters and celebrating them on their big days could be referred to as his way of relaxing. Also, Dangote has been at Eko Hotel for dialogue on the Lekki Free Zone’s maiden investment summit.
His Victoria Island home
As founder and chairman of Dangote Group, Dangote has homes in different parts of Nigeria. He once said, “I don’t have any holiday home anywhere. I don’t have a house anywhere but I know people who are working for me…they have houses in London.” Dangote reportedly owns a mansion in Abuja, a 2 billionaire home in Banana Island, Lagos and another home in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Dangote’s Victoria Island home may not be as big as his Abuja mansion, but it still has the distinctive taste that could be easily noticed in his Abuja estate. One of the most exciting areas in the Victoria Island home is the study, where he sits to relax and unwind. Reports reveal that the study is tastefully decorated and filled with high-quality furniture.
Moshood Abiola Stadium Pitch
As a lover of football, Dangote passionately supports Arsenal Football Club. He made an attempt in 2010 to purchase a stake in Arsenal, but the deal was rebuffed. The Nigerian billionaire despite the rejection said, “I still hope, one day at the right price, that I’ll buy the team. I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but at a price that the owners won’t want to resist. I know my strategy.” He also travelled to the Emirates in the company of his friend, Otedola, to watch his team play against PSG.

His love for football made him adopt the Moshood Abiola Stadium pitch for renovation. Visiting the stadium after the renovation, Dangote said, “You can rest assured of our continued support. You can always knock on our doors. We shouldn’t allow our Stadia to collapse. Nigerians have a very strong love for Sports, so I think we need to complement Government’s efforts to ensure that everything works.”
Dangote Group HeadQuarters in Lagos
The Nigerian business magnate who has been largely recognised for his entrepreneurial and philanthropic efforts also relaxes at his office in Lagos. When he is not busy with business meetings, Dangote is receiving accolades and awards for his contribution to communities across Africa.
One of such moment was when he was decorated by the Chairman/Chief Executive, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), as the Grand Ambassador of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) of the Agency. The 18-floor global headquarters is situated in Ikoyi, Lagos.
