Awele Elumelu acquired 5.076-percent stake in Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp), the Lagos-based conglomerate with interests in hospitality, healthcare, amongst others. She acquired 2,063,484,991 units of the total shares of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp) at a share price of N3.12 per share.

The transaction valued at about N6.4 billion Awele, a significant shareholding of 5.076% of the shares of the company. The acquisition effectively makes Dr. Awele Elumelu a significant shareholder of Transcorp Plc strengthening the control held by billionaire investor Tony Elumelu, who had increased his stake from 2.07 to more than 30 percent.

She’s the Chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited

Awele Elumelun holds the position as the chairperson of Avon Healthcare Limited, a subsidiary of the Heirs Holdings Group, a family owned business led by her husband, Tony Elumelu designed to cover health plans for individual, family, or corporate organisations registered under the company. 

Having identified poor health infrastructure and other health challenges in the country, she is focused on expanding and improving access to quality healthcare in Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation.

Awele’s the Ceo of Avon Medical Services Limited

Dr Awele Elumelu is the Founder and Chief Executive officer of Avon Medical Practice. She established the organization to provide affordable medical insurance and services to Nigerians from all walks of life and also to improve access to adequate and effective healthcare services in Nigeria.

Having been appointed as a Private Sector Champion for Immunisation in Africa by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance in 2018, where she uses her knowledge and expertise from the healthcare and business sectors to champion vaccination and immunization in Africa which has helped to improve access to adequate and effective healthcare services in Nigeria.

Awele’s the Director of Heirs Holding

The medical practitioner also serves as a Director on the Board of Heirs Holdings. Awele Elumelu oversees the healthcare investments in the Heirs Holdings’ portfolio. With her experience in the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and in the UK, with Grantham and District Hospital, Grantham, Awele is on the verge of a greater health and opportunity to all Africans.

Awele was appointed to the Yale Institute for Global Health Advisory Board in November 2020.
