Tinubu Appoints Zacch Adedeji as Acting FIRS Boss
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Zacch Adedeji as the interim head of the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), according to an official communication released on Thursday by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President.
In the same announcement, Ngelale noted that Muhammad Nami, the previous chair of the FIRS, is mandated to commence a three-month pre-retirement leave, in compliance with Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243. This leave sets the stage for Nami’s retirement on December 8, 2023.
Zacch Adedeji will serve provisionally for a 90-day period, after which he is expected to be formally confirmed for a four-year term as the Executive Chairman of FIRS. The appointment is effective immediately.
Before this role, Adedeji advised President Tinubu on revenue matters. He also held the Finance Commissioner post under the late Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi. A certified accountant from the Iwo-Ate area in Oyo State, Adedeji recently earned his doctorate degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
Adedeji’s experience ranges across sectors
Adding to his credentials, Zacch Adedeji is a first-class graduate in accounting from Obafemi Awolowo University. His service to the nation extends beyond his most recent role as special adviser on revenue. Prior to that appointment, he contributed to governance as the Commissioner of Finance in Oyo State.
Adedeji also led the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC) as the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer. His wide-ranging experience in finance, governance, and revenue optimization places him in good stead to helm the Federal Inland Revenue Services for the foreseeable future.
