The Federal government has expressed deep sorrow regarding the ambush and killing of personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Police, and the Army while they were on official duty in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has characterized the incident as a horrific tragedy, profoundly shocking and barbaric. He has vowed that those responsible for this heinous act will be held accountable. In a statement released by Fatai Afonja, Deputy Director of Press at the Federal Ministry of Interior, the minister has reassured the families of the deceased and all Nigerians that the nation will always remember and honor their sacrifices.

Tunji-Ojo, speaking on behalf of the ministry, the government, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledged to ensure that the memories of the fallen security personnel in Imo are not forgotten.

Additionally, he offered prayers for the departed souls and reaffirmed the commitment to vigorously investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

In confirmation of the incident, Babawale Afolabi, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NSCDC, said that two of their personnel were assaulted in the same situation in Imo. He reported that one of the officers has tragically lost their life, while the remaining individuals are in critical condition and currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
