Nollywood Star Juliana Olayode Discusses Her Ongoing Battle With PCOS

Nollywood actress, Juliana Olayode, widely recognised as Toyo Baby, has candidly shared her ongoing struggle with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), bringing attention to a condition that many women battle in silence.

Juliana’s revelation about her PCOS battle came through her YouTube channel, where she detailed her experience with continuous bleeding that persisted for four months.

Juliana, frustrated and exhausted by the continuous regimen of medications and topical ointments, decided to place her faith in God, seeking divine intervention for her health condition.

This faith, coupled with prayer, resulted in a transformation in her health. Following her recovery, the actress, renowned for her role in the ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ comedy series, acknowledged the necessity of lifestyle and dietary changes. She highlighted the correlation between the consumption of unhealthy foods and the manifestation of various health issues.

What Juliana said about PCOS

She said, “I’m sharing this because I know there are a lot of women battling with hormonal imbalance/PCOS. You probably feel tired, weird, and ashamed. You probably have spent so much money on medication and you haven’t seen any changes.”

Juliana also added, “I was dealing with hormonal imbalance/PCOS and Psoriasis at the same time. I woke up one day and I said ‘Enough is enough’. I was tired of swallowing drugs and applying all sorts of ointment on my skin. I prayed and exercised my faith and everything changed.”

Toyo Baby emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy diet to prevent health issues, stating, “When I got my healing, I also had to change my lifestyle/the things I eat. The majority of the health issues we have are because of the things that we consume.”

Understanding PCOS: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age.

Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels. The ovaries may develop numerous small collections of fluid (follicles) and fail to regularly release eggs.

The exact cause of PCOS is unknown, but early diagnosis and treatment, along with weight loss, may reduce the risk of long-term complications such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
