Former Presidential Candidate Fela Durotoye Named Aide to President Bola Tinubu

Mr. Fela Durotoye has taken on the role of Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on National Values and Social Justice, marking a significant development in his illustrious career.

Born on May 12, 1971, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Mr. Durotoye hails from a distinguished family; both of his parents, Layiwola and Adeline Durotoye, are professors at the University of Ibadan. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with Economics and a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Furthermore, Mr. Durotoye is an alumnus of the John F. Kennedy School of Government Executive Education program at Harvard University.

Mr. Durotoye’s professional journey has been impressive, beginning with his role as a financial analyst at Ventures & Trusts Limited in 1992. Subsequently, he served as the head of the customer service department at Phillips Consulting Limited in 1998. In 2000, he joined V.I.P Consulting Limited, where he gained recognition for his expertise in customer and human management. The firm later transitioned into a social enterprise known as Visible Impact Limited.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Mr. Durotoye is the President of the GEMSTONE Nation Builders Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to nurturing young leaders and driving social change.

Mr. Durotoye’s commitment to philanthropy and community development is evident through his leadership in the “Mushin Makeover” urban renewal project, launched in December 2009. Collaborating with notable figures such as Banky W, Alibaba, and Kate Henshaw, this initiative aimed to rejuvenate and beautify the Mushin suburb of Lagos. Over 2,000 volunteers participated, painting 296 houses across seven streets at no cost to homeowners and residents.

In the political arena, Mr. Durotoye garnered attention as the presidential candidate of the Alliance for New Nigeria party (ANN) during the 2019 general election, reflecting his dedication to civic engagement and positive change.

A devout Christian, Mr. Durotoye shares his life journey with his wife, Tara Fela-Durotoye, a prominent Nigerian make-up artist, lawyer, and CEO of House of Tara. They are blessed with three children.
