Tinubu Administration Names Aminu Maida as New NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Unveils Additional Appointments
Aminu Maida was officially appointed as the new Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on Wednesday.
President Bola Tinubu’s administration has chosen to appoint Maida as the new EVC following the departure of the contentious Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, who is set to immediately vacate his role at the commission.
Aminu Maida’s past roles
Aminu Maida currently serves as the Executive Director of Technology and Operations at Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS), bringing with him more than 15 years of diverse and international experience in the fields of FinTech, Telecoms, and Enterprise Technology.
Before joining NIBSS, Maida held the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Arca Payments Network, a FinTech company based in Nigeria. Additionally, he worked as a Senior Manager at Cisco Systems in the United Kingdom.
Maida is academically accomplished, holding a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree in Information Systems Engineering from Imperial College London and a PhD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom.
Danbatta’s appointment while in office
Danbatta assumed the role of Executive Vice Chairman of NCC in 2015, and he was subsequently reappointed for a second term of five years in July 2020. The decision to not renew his tenure may be attributed to the cloud of corruption allegations surrounding him.
Among the notable appointments are the following individuals, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi serves as the DG / CEO of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Dr. Vincent Olatunji holds the position of National Commissioner / CEO at the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
Tola Odeyemi is the Postmaster General / CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
