Sanwo-Olu Unveils $100m Film City Vision for Lagos
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has revealed plans for the Sanwo-Olu Film City, a project set to revolutionise the entertainment industry.
With an estimated cost of $100 million, the Sanwo-Olu Film City in Epe is designed to be a beacon of cinematic excellence, executed through a Private Public Partnership (PPP).
This ambitious venture christened ‘Kebulania Lagos Film City’, emerges from a collaboration with Del-York International Group.
The $100 million project aims to be a powerhouse for innovation, talent discovery, and captivating storytelling.
Located in the tranquil Ejinrin town within Epe Local Government Area, the 100-hectare facility will feature 900 meters of prime waterfront, offering a blend of work, live, and play environments.
What Sanwo-Olu Film City represents
Speaking during the official groundbreaking ceremony in Epe, Sanwo-Olu said, “The Sanwo-Olu Film City will serve as a nexus for film production, post-production, visual effects, and all the ancillary services bolstering the world of filmmaking. Our dream is to establish a film city replete with cutting-edge facilities, sound stages, editing suites, and production offices, all dedicated to the magic of cinema.”
Who birthed this concept?
Linus Idahosa, the CEO and Founder of Del-York Group, who birthed this concept three years prior, emphasised that the Sanwo-Olu Film City is more than just a hub for creativity. It’s a catalyst for economic dynamism and job creation.
He envisions a synergy between the Lagos Film City and the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, predicting a significant economic uplift.
With an expected surge of international visitors, Idahosa anticipates the tourism sector alone to augment the local economy, potentially increasing revenue by over 20% in the forthcoming years.
Idahosa also added, “Collaboration is the heartbeat of creativity. The project will be a melting pot, uniting diverse cultures under a shared creative vision. It’s where the global creative community will converge, collaborate, and create. Together, we don’t just craft art; we craft history. Lagos is poised to be not just a hub but the epicentre of the global entertainment industry.”
