Orascom Construction, Led by the Billionaire Sawiris Family, Embarks on New Transport Ventures in Egypt

Orascom Construction PLC, backed by the prestigious billionaire Sawiris family, has recently inked deals to commence two significant transport infrastructure projects in Egypt, further cementing its stature in the sector.

The first of these contracts awarded to the company, controlled by the billionaire Sawiris family, involves all civil works for the Greater Cairo Metro Line 4 – Package CP402. This line is set to run subterranean from Giza to Fustat, creating vital links with the existing Metro Lines 1 and 2. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a key financier for a major part of this development.

Additionally, the billionaire Sawiris family’s Orascom Construction will spearhead a consortium responsible for the Mechanical, Electromechanical, and Plumbing (MEP) operations for the initial phase of Egypt’s new high-speed rail system. This line will stretch from Ain Sokhna to Marsa Matrouh, marking a critical advancement in the nation’s transport infrastructure.

These contracts represent an extension of the group’s pivotal involvement in these transformative projects. Previously, Orascom Construction had declared its consortiums’ involvement in the Railway Systems, Track and Depot Works Package (CP411) for the entirety of Cairo Metro Line 4 and the comprehensive development of the high-speed rail system, including its design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
