
Massive Police Deployment: 25,565 Officers Assigned for Imo Election
In anticipation of the upcoming governorship election in Imo State, the Nigeria Police Force has announced a formidable deployment of 25,565 officers and over 250 vehicles to ensure the safety and security of the electoral process.
This massive security presence aims to provide a level playing field for all political actors, citizens, election observers, INEC officials, and journalists during the Imo election.
Frank Mba, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) overseeing the governorship election in Imo state, emphasized the importance of the police’s core mandate to create a safe and conducive environment for the election. He highlighted that the assets and personnel deployed would significantly strengthen the police’s capacity to fulfill this critical role.
According to him, the police’s deployment includes 33 units of the Police Mobile Force, in addition to various tactical departments like the Counter Terrorism Units, STS, IRT, Special Protection Unit, and the SWAT team.
He added that the goal is to create an atmosphere conducive to free and fair elections in the Imo state election where the voice of the people can be heard without interference.
