It’s the year of the Burna Boy! And this statement rings true when you start reviewing Burna’s achievements in 2019.
In addition to the ever-growing list of the Afro-fusion artiste’s achievements, Burna is not only top of Apple Music’s recently published list of the most-broadcast songs in sub-Saharan Africa in 2019, but he also dominates the list with five of his songs.
Burna Boy’s songs on the list are from the singer’s last album, “African Giant,” released in July of this year. The album was nominated for the 62nd Grammy Awards in the category Best World Music Album.
Noteworthy is the fact that in a list that reviews music listening habits in Sub-Saharan Africa – a region that consists of all African countries that are fully or partially located south of the Sahara – Nigerian songs feature nine times out of ten. Interestingly, the only non-Nigerian song on the list, “Brown Skin Girl” by Beyonce has a Nigerian feature.
Below are the top 10 most streamed songs on Apple Music in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2019:
- Burna Boy — “On The Low”
- Zlatan & Burna Boy — “Killin Dem”
- Burna Boy — “Anybody”
