10 Foods That Got Really Expensive in Nigeria in September 2024

In September 2024, prices of things like food and transportation in Nigeria went up even more. This made it harder for families to buy what they need.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said that prices rose by 32.70%, which is higher than in August when it was 32.15%.

This is because the cost of things like buses, food, and other everyday items became more expensive.

What is Inflation?

Inflation means that things cost more than they used to. For example, if a bag of rice cost N500 last year, this year it might cost N1,000.

That’s inflation. In September 2023, prices were already rising, but they went up even more this year.

Why Did Prices Go Up?

Prices increased because it costs more to transport food and goods, and there are fewer supplies of some important foods. Foods like beans, rice, and plantains have become a lot more expensive.
