10th Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards Begin This Weekend

This Friday marks a special celebration for African cinema and television as the 10th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) kicks off with the much-anticipated Cultural Day.

Set to begin on May 10, 2024, this event promises to usher in a weekend of glamour, celebration, and appreciation of the continent’s finest talents.

Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice West Africa, shared her enthusiasm for this milestone event. “The 10th edition of the AMVCA is not just an award ceremony; it’s a celebration of a decade of outstanding achievements in African storytelling,” she said.

This year, the AMVCA is set to honor the past, present, and future of African entertainment, highlighting the journey that began back in 2013.

What to Expect at the AMVCA

The festivities commence with Cultural Day, featuring an array of musical performances and cultural presentations that showcase the rich heritage of Africa. As anticipation builds, the main event on Saturday, May 11, promises to be a night of unforgettable moments.

The ceremony will be hosted by the charismatic IK Osakioduwa, with live performances from top music stars adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

This year’s AMVCA includes a wide range of categories, with 25 in total. These encompass 16 non-voting categories, 9 audience-voting categories, and two special recognition awards—the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer Awards. The awards reflect a broad spectrum of talent and achievement, ensuring that various aspects of film and television production are recognized.

A Night of Stars and Sponsors

The awards are backed by numerous sponsors who are as passionate about African media as the viewers. Categories such as Best Lead Actor and Actress are sponsored by Verve and Quickteller, respectively, while others like Best Movie and Best Director have found support from Amstel Malta and Martell.

Each sponsor adds to the prestige and support of the AMVCA’s aim to promote African creativity on a global stage.

The highlight of the weekend, the Award Night, will be broadcast live on May 11 from 4 PM WAT. Viewers can catch all the action on all Africa Magic channels available on DStv and GOtv. This year’s AMVCA is not just a ceremony; it’s a grand celebration of African talent, broadcast across the continent and beyond, thanks to Africa Magic and MultiChoice’s collaboration, with Amstel leading as the headline sponsor.
