Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s president-elect, is a prominent figure in Nigerian politics who has lived a quiet personal lifestyle despite his popularity in the country.

While his political career is widely covered in the media, there are some lesser-known facts about his family that may surprise you.

Tinubu’s net worth

Tinubu  is known as one of the richest politicians in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $5 billion. As a result of the statement he made during one of his political campaigns in 2018, where he claimed he was richer than Osun State at the time, a lot of Nigerians perceived he controls lots of funds in the country.

There are several alleged assets that have also been traced to his name which includes the Oriental Hotel, TVC Television and Radio, Lekki Concession Company, Ikeja Shopping mall, Renaissance Hotel, The Nation Newspapers, Radio Continental, Apapa amusement park. 

Tinubu’s estranged first wife

Tinubu’s estranged wife is known as Abibat Tinubu. While there is not so much information about her, she is reported to have died in 2018 and the news of her death was shrouded in secrecy.

She is the alleged mother of Jide Tinubu, the first son of Bola Tinubu who died in October 2017 due to cardiac arrest in the United Kingdom.

Tinubu’s children

Tinubu has several children from his wife, Oluremi Tinubu and his late estranged wife. Bola Tinubu has five children, and their names are Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Oluwaseyi Tinubu, Zainab Tinubu, Habibat Tinubu, and Jide Tinubu.

Jide Tinubu, Bola Tinubu’s first son, sadly passed away a few years ago, leaving Seyi Tinubu to be his only surviving son. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the first daughter and first child of Tinubu is the Iyaloja of Lagos, a title she was crowned after the death of her grandmother, Abibatu Mogaji. Zainab Tinubu is an entrepreneur known as the first child of Oluremi Tinubu while Habibatu Tinubu is the last child of the president-elect.

Tinubu’s properties

Tinubu is rumoured to have over 30 cars ranging from type to type. Some of these cars include a Range Rover Sentinel and a Prado Jeep which he uses for security purposes. 

Some of the other brands of cars he uses for personal or security purposes include Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW, Ford, Lexus, amongst others. While some of these cars were bought by him, some others were gifted to him by some colleagues and friends.

Aside from Tinubu’s fleet of exotic cars, he is the owner of a private Bombardier Global 6000 Express jet which range from $20 million to $50 million. 

The president-elect also has some residential properties all over the country. Aside from where he currently lives on Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi, Lagos State which sits at over N650 million. Others include Lakowe near Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikoyi Estate Foreshore, Oyinkan Abayomi, Ikoyi, Asokoro in Abuja, Atlantic beachfront, the choice property, Eleko junction and several other properties in Nigeria.

Tinubu’s account in foreign countries

Tinubu allegedly has about 10 foreign accounts with names traceable to his mother, Abibatu Mogajia and some relatives in the United Kingdom. These accounts were investigated as being linked to narcotics and money laundering.

There are several other rumoured accounts linked to the president-elect in several countries which includes Great Portland Street London WIW60J, First Heritage Bank, Country Club Hill, Illinois, USA,  CitiBank International, New York, amongst others.
