Tinubu’s Meetings: An Attempt To Renew Nigerians Hope
Since President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration, the new president has had several meetings with principal offers at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meetings could be described as Tinubu’s attempt to concretise his plans and renew the hope of Nigerians as promised in his campaign manifesto.
Tinubu started off today with a meeting with the Service Chiefs. Arriving at the Villa at 10:53 am, Tinubu began a closed-door session with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao and the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba.
While the details of the meeting remain unknown, reports suggest that it was targeted at bringing the President up to speed with the nation’s security state. Recall that Tinubu’s inaugural speech noted that he will prioritise security because neither prosperity nor justice can prevail amidst insecurity and violence.
Tinubu meets Senate president, Speaker ahead of 10th National Assembly inauguration
In a recent update, Tinubu met with the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila shortly after his first meeting with the Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police.
The purpose of the meeting can be closely linked with the inauguration of the members of the 10th National Assembly scheduled for the 5th of June, 2023. It is also not unconnected with the eventual election of a new President of the Senate, Deputy President of the Senate, and Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
While at least six senators are contesting for the seat of the president of the 10th Senate, Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State is rumoured to be Tinubu’s choice for the position.
