Presidential Election Tribunal to Rule on Peter Obi and Atiku’s Petitions This Wednesday

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, convened in Abuja, has set a date for delivering its judgment regarding the petitions that question the legitimacy of President Bola Tinubu’s election. This important announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6th, and it is anticipated that the judgment will be broadcast live.

The tribunal had previously consolidated the petitions submitted by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi representing the Labour Party. In doing so, it deferred making individual rulings to facilitate the issuance of unified judgments for all these cases simultaneously.

In May, following the conclusion of the petitions, the tribunal provided a pre-hearing report and a trial schedule. However, it has since denied allegations that it had set September 16th as the date for delivering its judgments.

The imminent judgment has sparked considerable curiosity and excitement among various political factions. The tribunal’s forthcoming decision will serve as a conclusive ruling on the opposition’s objections to Tinubu’s electoral win.

Anticipation runs high that the judgments will align with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Tinubu as the victor. Nevertheless, should the tribunal rule against the petitioners, they are expected to pursue the matter further in the Supreme Court.

This impending judgment day marks a critical moment for resolving a highly contested electoral dispute. The tribunal is under intense scrutiny, given that its verdicts will carry significant implications for Nigeria’s political landscape.
