Four Nollywood Actors Who Passed Away Since the Start of 2024

Ethel Ekpe

February brought more sad news as veteran actress Ethel Ekpe passed away on February 7, 2024. Ekpe, who was beloved for her role as ‘Segi’ in the Nigerian Television Authority sitcom ‘Basi and Company,’ died after a battle with cancer. Her death at the age of 60 was a significant loss to the Nigerian entertainment scene, where she had been a familiar and cherished presence.

Sisi Quadri (Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji)

The Nollywood community was further shaken by the death of Yoruba actor Tolani Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, on March 1, 2024. He was just 44 years old. Celebrated for his vibrant performances, Sisi Quadri’s untimely passing was mourned by colleagues and fans alike. Tributes poured in, with actress Abiola Bayo expressing on Instagram, “You will be greatly missed, Sisi Quadri. May your soul rest in perfect peace.”

Mr. Ibu (John Okafor)

The sorrow continued as the beloved popular Nollywood comedic actor John Okafor, better known as Mr. Ibu, passed away at the age of 62. News of his death came just a day after the announcement of Sisi Quadri’s passing, leaving the entertainment industry in shock. Mr. Ibu was renowned for his humorous roles that brought laughter to countless homes. His legacy as a pivotal figure in Nollywood’s comedy genre will be remembered for years to come.
