5 Female Celebrities Who Allegedly Snatched People’s Husband
It’s not just in the movies. Even in Nigeria, despite the widespread condemnation and shame associated with the act of “husband snatching,” some Nigerian celebrities have still gone ahead to do it.
Personally, I find the term “husband snatcher” quite amusing. It implies that the husband was taken without consent, like a toy. However, these are full-grown men who chose to follow these women.
While I dislike how the term ‘husband snatcher’ portrays women as the villains, it is the Nigerian term for what these women did and how the Nigerian people perceive them.
Stella Damasus

In 2014, when Stella Damasus announced her marriage to acclaimed movie director Daniel Ademinokan, it stirred quite a reaction. The reason? Many accused her of “snatching” Daniel from his then-wife, actress Doris Simeon.
For a long time, Stella remained silent on the accusations. However, in 2016, she finally addressed the claims, sharing her perspective:
“One of the comments I have seen repeatedly is, ‘Stella snatches somebody’s husband’; ‘Stella the husband snatcher,’ which has been going on for years.

I had sworn that I would never talk about it, but I have decided to address it now to put an end to it once and for all.
How is it possible to go to someone’s home, take a man and his son away, and say ‘follow me’?
Imagine you are a man, supposedly happily married with your family, and I walk into that home to forcefully take you, an able-bodied man, and your child away while your family stands by watching. How does that work?
Logically, if people sit down and think about it intelligently, how could anyone ‘snatch’ someone else’s spouse in that way without them resisting?”
Nuella Njubigbo

Nuella Njubigbo and prolific movie director Tchidi Chikere tied the knot in 2014, a marriage announcement that quickly went viral.
The attention was due to Tchidi’s previous marriage to actress Sophia, which ended shortly before he got together with Nuella.
Rumors circulated that Tchidi and Nuella had been involved before he separated from Sophia, and that they had moved in together at Graceland Estate, Ajah, not long after his split from Sophia and their children.

As their wedding approached, Nuella addressed the allegations, stating that she was simply “following her heart” and claimed she only began dating Tchidi after he left his wife.
However, Sophia did not hold back in her response, publicly expressing her frustration and disbelief. She wrote:
“I swear with my life, my children’s lives, and everything I have that Nuella started dating my husband before he left the marriage.
Let the wrath of God be your portion. Now that you have taken my husband and are getting married to him, are you happy? Are you fulfilled? Let the Almighty God fight for me and judge you.”
Mercy Aigbe

In 2013, Mercy Aigbe married Nigerian hotelier Lanre Gentry, a union that quickly sparked rumors and accusations, with some suggesting that Mercy had “snatched” Lanre from his previous wife.
In an interview with Encomium Weekly, Mercy addressed these claims, clarifying her side of the story.
During the interview, the interviewer questioned her about conflicting statements she’d made regarding Lanre’s previous marriage.
Initially, Mercy had said she was aware her husband had a previous wife and that they were on good terms. Later, however, she stated that Lanre had been divorced for eight years before they got together.
Mercy responded:
“The truth is that my husband is divorced; he doesn’t have any wife apart from me. I am the only one in his house.
My husband was once married and has kids, but his ex-wife remarried. They had been separated and divorced for about eight years before I came into the picture.”
When asked if she had misunderstood the situation initially, Mercy clarified:
“Not really; the thing is, he was separated from his wife. I didn’t want to start saying this and that. I wanted them to be through with their divorce process.
Now, the woman is remarried, which means their divorce is finalized, and my husband is free to move on.”
Mercy Johnson

Nigerian actress Mercy Johnson is a well-known name in the “husband snatcher” stories. In 2011, Mercy faced a lot of criticism when she married her husband, Prince Okojie.
Many people claimed that Prince was already married to a woman named Lovely Okojie, who was said to be the mother of his two children.

Reports suggested that Lovely was living outside Nigeria with their children, which made people accuse Mercy of breaking up their family to marry Prince.
The story caused a big stir in Nigeria, with many people speaking out against Mercy and sharing their opinions on social media.
Funke Akindele

Before Nollywood actress Funke Akindele married her first husband, Adeola Kehinde Oloyede, rumors were already swirling that she had “snatched” him from a previous marriage.
In a 2010 interview with Vanguard, Funke addressed these rumors directly:
“You sound friendly and innocent, but your name has been connected with controversy recently. It’s either people say you’ve taken someone’s husband or that you’re fighting over a boyfriend. What’s the truth in these stories?”
Funke responded:
“I wasn’t going to talk about this, but I want to clear the air. I want to say clearly that I did not snatch anyone’s boyfriend or husband.
I am single but not searching. By God’s grace, I will get married very soon. To my fans, please pray that it works out well.”
She added, “I am a role model for many young people, especially girls who want to be like me. Why would I take another woman’s husband or boyfriend? I wouldn’t do anything to ruin my image.”
Funke’s marriage to Adeola ended in less than two years, but she is now happily married to her current husband, JJC Skillz, with whom she has two children.
