7 African Airlines in the Top 100 Global Airlines Ranking for 2024
Seven African airlines made it to the list of the top 100 airlines worldwide, according to the World Airline Awards announced by Skytrax.
None of the Nigerian airlines made it to the top seven this time but we are hopeful we will make the list with the right structures put in place. Ethiopian Airlines took the lead instead followed by other African airlines like Kenya Airways, South African Airways, etc.
Qatar Airways also earned the title of the best airline globally for the year, followed closely by Singapore Airlines and Emirates, which secured second and third places.
Here’s a closer look at the African airlines that stood out in the 2024 rankings
1. Ethiopian Airlines
Positioned at 36th globally, Ethiopian Airlines experienced a slight dip compared to its 35th place in 2023. It remains a strong contender on the list, reflecting its ongoing commitment to quality and service.
2. Royal Air Maroc
As Morocco’s flagship carrier, Royal Air Maroc was ranked 55th in 2024, slightly down from 53rd the previous year. Despite the small decline, it continues to be a key player in African aviation.
3. South African Airways
South Africa’s main airline improved its ranking to 69th in 2024, up from 72nd in 2023. This progress indicates a positive trend for the airline’s performance and customer satisfaction.
4. Kenya Airways
Known as the Pride of Africa, Kenya Airways was ranked 77th in 2024. This is a slight decrease from its 73rd spot in 2023, but it still highlights its significant role in connecting Africa with the world.
5. RwandAir
Rwanda’s national carrier climbed to the 81st position in 2024, up from 90th in 2023. This jump in the rankings is a testament to its dedication to improving its services and expanding its reach.
6. Air Mauritius
The main airline of Mauritius ranked 85th in 2024, falling from 78th in 2023. Despite the drop, Air Mauritius remains an important part of the island’s connection to the global air travel network.
7. Egyptair
Egypt’s national airline, also one of the oldest in Africa, ranked 88th in 2024, a significant improvement from 110th in 2023. This rise reflects ongoing improvements and a commitment to enhancing travel experiences for its passengers.
