9 Nigerian Entertainers That Have Become Pastors?

It’s not unusual to see Nigerian entertainers transition from the spotlight of showbiz to the pulpit. Over the years, several musicians, actors, and comedians have found a new calling in ministry, dedicating their lives to preaching the gospel.

Some of them juggle both careers, while others have completely left entertainment to focus on their spiritual journey. Here are some Nigerian entertainers who have become pastors:

Zack Orji

Zack Orji, a household name in Nollywood, made his mark with the 1991 film Unforgiven Sin. Known for his charismatic roles and leadership as a former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Orji’s transition into ministry came as no surprise. He was ordained as an evangelist at the Christian Central Chapel International (CCCI) and has since been dedicated to spreading the gospel across Nigeria.

Kanayo O. Kanayo

Kanayo O. Kanayo, a veteran actor known for his ritual-themed movie roles, has taken a different path in real life. Despite being widely recognized for playing money ritualists on screen, Kanayo is a preacher at Christ Mission Worldwide Church in Egbeda, Lagos. His journey highlights the contrast between entertainment and faith, as he actively shares messages of righteousness.

Pat Attah

Once considered one of Nollywood’s heartthrobs, Pat Attah was famous for his romantic roles. However, he has since embraced a new mission, evangelism. Unlike traditional pastors who lead congregations in churches, Pat Attah uses social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to preach to a global audience from his base in Hamburg, Germany.

Eucharia Anunobi

Eucharia Anunobi, best known for her roles in Glamour Girls and Abuja Connection, shocked many when she announced her transition into ministry. Despite her past roles, she insists that being a pastor doesn’t stop her from acting in films. She was ordained as an evangelist on February 5, 2012, at the Fresh Oil Ministry Church in Lagos, where she counsels young people and teaches the gospel.

Jimmy Odukoya

Jimmy Odukoya, an actor and the son of the late renowned pastor Taiwo Odukoya, has followed in his father’s footsteps. He now serves as the senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, taking on the responsibility of leading a large congregation. His journey reflects how entertainment and faith can coexist, as he continues to embrace both his acting career and pastoral duties.

Patience Ozokwor

Patience Ozokwor, known for her powerful performances as a wicked mother-in-law or stepmother, has increasingly embraced her faith in recent years. While she still acts, she has also been seen ministering in churches, including St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Alaba, Lagos. She believes storytelling whether through film or preaching can be a tool for inspiring and teaching people about faith.

Banky W

Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W, is a musician, actor, and politician who has also stepped into the world of ministry. In 2020, he embraced a pastoral role at This Present House Church, founded by Pastor Tony Rapu. His social media pages reflect his shift towards faith-based messages, and he continues to release gospel music alongside his preaching.

Charles Okafor

Charles Okafor, a veteran Nollywood actor, has been less active in the film industry in recent years. Instead, he has dedicated more time to evangelism, spreading the gospel through his teachings and preaching. Though he recently made a brief return to acting, he remains focused on his ministerial work, using his platform to reach a wider audience for Christ.

Elizabeth Benson (Liz Benson)

Liz Benson, a Nollywood icon, started her acting career as a child but later found her purpose in ministry. In 2009, she married a bishop and was ordained as an evangelist. She now co-leads a church, the Rainbow Christian Assembly in Warri, Delta State, alongside her husband. Her transition into ministry has been seamless, as she continues to inspire through faith.
