AFCON 2025: Four Super Eagles at Risk of Suspension Ahead of Uganda Match

Four important Super Eagles players are one yellow card away from a suspension ahead of Nigeria’s final Group C match against Uganda.

The players are Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi, and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. If any of them receives a yellow card in the Uganda game, they could miss Nigeria’s Round of 16 match.

Osimhen, Nigeria’s main striker, is especially at risk. If he gets booked, coach Eric Chelle may have to rely on another forward option in the next round.

Lookman is also on the caution line. The winger has been a major threat for Nigeria so far and has scored in both of the team’s AFCON games, making any possible absence a big concern.

At the back, Semi Ajayi’s situation could force the coaching crew to think about adjustments in defence to avoid losing him for the knockout stage.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is also close to a suspension after his earlier booking, which reportedly came during Nigeria’s match against Tunisia. If he is cautioned again, Nigeria could be forced into a change in goal for the next round.

Nigeria have already secured qualification for the knockout phase, but they are still chasing a strong finish in the group. A win against Uganda would give the Super Eagles nine points from three matches, after earlier victories over Tanzania (2–1) and Tunisia (3–2), and would confirm them as group leaders heading into the Round of 16.
