Africapitalism: Bank Trains, Employs over 300 Graduates

UBA Plc has completed the second edition of its Graduate Management Acceleration Programme (GMAP), employing over 1000 young Africans.

The 2024 edition selected 398 grads for six months of work and learning, capped with induction to the bank.

Chairman, UBA Group, Tony Elumelu, said it’s the part the private sector can play to improve life in Africa.

“This is Africapitalism, and it is gratifying to see UBA play its part,” he said at the event on Friday.

Africapitalism is Elumelu’s exclusive philosophy of dealing with poverty in Africa. He jump-started the idea with the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurial Programme (TEEP), and, now, GMAP.

The induction took place at Eko Hotel, Lagos, and had in attendance the group’s CEO, head, human resources, and others.

GMAP’s 2024 inductees comprised graduates from Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia.

The group’s CEO Oliver Alawuba commended the class for their unwavering commitment to the programme.

“Each of you has demonstrated the qualities of a true UBA ambassador,” he said.

GMAP promises to sustain the initiative whose intensive journey leads towards leadership excellence.

Head of HR Modupe Akindele revealed that over 1000 participants have graduated so far, with about 700 in 2023.
