All About Aliko Dangote’s Refinery First Jet Fuel Export to Europe
Aliko Dangote’s refinery has recently launched its first shipment of jet fuel to Europe. On May 27, a ship named “Doric Breeze” left the shores of Lagos from the Lekki Free Zone, carrying 45,000 metric tons of high-quality jet fuel destined for Rotterdam, Netherlands. This movement, documented by S&P Global Commodities at Sea, begins a promising phase of international trade for the Dangote Oil Refinery.
Previously, the refinery had already made a name for itself by supplying jet fuel and kerosene to several African countries like Senegal, Togo, and Ghana. Now, with its sights set on broader horizons, it’s shipping other refined products like naphtha, fuel oil, and gasoil across Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Located on the outskirts of Lagos, the expansive Dangote Petrochemical Complex isn’t just producing jet fuel. It also houses a polypropylene plant capable of producing 1 million metric tonnes per year and two of Africa’s largest fertilizer trains with a 3 million tonnes annual output of urea.

What to note
This complex is a technological marvel, equipped to refine various types of crude oil, ensuring a steady supply of diverse petroleum products. Looking ahead, the refinery plans to expand further in early 2025, aiming to enhance its output and reach.
With new milestones on the horizon, the refinery is gearing up to start its petrol distribution this month and plans to begin shipping ultra-low sulfur diesel to Europe by the third quarter.
Aliko Dangote himself has expressed immense confidence in the refinery’s capacity to meet the refined product demands of Nigeria and other African countries once it is fully operational.
Reflecting its growing influence and ambition, the Dangote Oil Refinery is preparing for a dual listing on the London Stock Exchange and the Nigerian Exchange.
