All About Financial Crime Chief Baltasar Ebang Facing Sex Tape Scandal

Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), is under intense public and governmental scrutiny after a scandal involving explicit videos surfaced.

The videos, which were allegedly found on his work computer, reportedly show Ebang Engonga in compromising situations with several women, including high-profile individuals and relatives.

How the scandal came to limelight

The scandal came to light during a fraud investigation within ANIF. Investigators reportedly stumbled upon over 300 explicit videos stored on Ebang Engonga’s office computer.

These videos included encounters with multiple women, some of whom are married and connected to prominent figures in Equatorial Guinea. Among those allegedly involved are his brother’s wife, his cousin, and even the sister of the President.

The explicit content reportedly shows Ebang Engonga in various encounters with women, all believed to be recorded with mutual consent. These videos, however, were stored on a government-issued device in his personal office, a fact that has sparked outrage within government circles and among citizens.

After being discovered, some of these videos were leaked online, causing a media firestorm across Equatorial Guinea and drawing attention beyond the country’s borders.

How the government reacted

Equatorial Guinea’s Vice President, Teodoro Nguema, did not stay silent on the issue. He took to social media, specifically X (formerly known as Twitter), to publicly address the scandal and express disapproval over the conduct displayed within government offices.

His statement underscored the importance of professional integrity, especially in public administration roles.

“Given the abuse that has been shown on social media in Equatorial Guinea in recent days, and remembering that ministries are solely and exclusively for carrying out administrative work in support of the country’s development, sexual relations in offices are prohibited,” he stated.

The Vice President also hinted at disciplinary actions, warning that any similar behavior in the future would be met with strict consequences, including dismissal from government posts.

Who is Baltasar Ebang Engonga?

Baltasar Ebang Engonga is not a new face in Equatorial Guinea’s administration. As the Director General of ANIF, he oversees investigations related to financial fraud and money laundering, playing a pivotal role in the country’s efforts to combat financial corruption.

ANIF has significant influence, responsible for promoting transparency within Equatorial Guinea’s financial sector.

Ebang Engonga is a married man with six children, and he has long been seen as a pillar within ANIF. His position gave him not only authority but also a level of public trust that made this scandal all the more shocking. He was perceived as a figure committed to upholding the law, especially against financial misdeeds—a reputation now tarnished by these allegations.

How the public reacted

The scandal has sparked varied reactions in Equatorial Guinea. Some citizens have taken to social media, expressing disappointment and calling for accountability, while others speculate on the potential political underpinnings of the scandal.

Meanwhile, the government’s response, particularly from Vice President Nguema, has shown a clear intent to address the issue and prevent similar incidents within the country’s administration.

What this could mean for Ebang Engonga’s career

For now, Baltasar Ebang Engonga’s future in his position at ANIF remains uncertain. With Vice President Nguema’s public statement on maintaining integrity in government offices and prohibiting unprofessional conduct, the government appears to be setting a precedent for disciplinary actions in similar cases.

This incident could lead to reforms in the country’s administrative culture and increased scrutiny on officials in positions of power.

The scandal involving Ebang Engonga highlights broader issues of integrity and accountability within Equatorial Guinea’s public sector. Whether or not he will retain his position at ANIF, the effects of this scandal will likely resonate in Equatorial Guinea’s government for some time.
